For yoga teacher trainees
A Practical Resource for Yoga Teacher Trainees
Āsana/OS is a practical companion for yoga teacher trainees (YTT) working alongside a structured 200 or 300 hour training. It turns the theory of sequencing, cueing and class planning into hands on practice. Build the sequences your trainer sets, rehearse them in your own body with a spoken cue Play Mode, and keep every draft in one calendar you can review with a mentor. Plan, play, practice, from the first module to your first paid class.
Written by teachers, for teachers.
Alongside your YTT, not in place of it.
A good 200 or 300 hour course teaches you how a class should feel and why it is put together the way it is. What most trainees are missing is a quiet, low stakes place to actually build and rehearse classes in between modules. That is what Āsana/OS is for.
- Your trainer teaches the principles. The app is where you apply them.
- Your manual holds the reading. The app holds every class you draft.
- Your peers give live feedback. The app keeps the version they gave it on.
What YTT homework gets easier.
- Sequencing assignments. Drag poses from a searchable library instead of typing Sanskrit names into a document.
- Peak pose classes. Work backwards from the peak using the same arc the peak pose sequencing guide lays out.
- Cue writing. Save cues on each pose so your voice is consistent across a class and across the course.
- Teach backs. Print a clean outline for your assessor and teach from Play Mode with no notes in hand.
- Practice teaching hours. Log your practice classes on the calendar so you can see the shape of your logged hours at a glance.
Plan, play, practice. The trainee version.
- Plan. Draft the sequence your trainer set. Reorder, edit and rewrite cues in your own words until the class reads like you.
- Play. Drop the class on tomorrow in the calendar and open Play Mode. Cues read aloud so you can practise standing up, walking around, teaching to an empty room.
- Practice. Teach the class to a friend, a housemate or your cohort. Adjust after the class and keep the next version.
Rehearse with a spoken cue Play Mode.
One of the hardest parts of a YTT is hearing your own teaching voice from outside your own head. Play Mode reads your written cues aloud at the pace you set, so you can move through the class as a student would, hear where a cue is clunky, and rewrite it before you say it to a real room.
Share drafts with a mentor.
Every class can be shared as a private view only link or published to the community. A mentor can open your draft on their own phone, see exactly what you plan to teach and comment on it. Nothing is public unless you choose to publish.
After graduation, the same file becomes your teaching kit.
The classes you built during training do not go in a drawer. They stay in your library, fully editable, ready to be dropped onto the calendar the first time a studio hands you a slot. See the yoga class planning app and sequencing app overview for how the tools scale up when you start teaching in public.
Frequently asked questions
- Does this replace my yoga teacher training?
- No, and it is not meant to. A YTT is where you learn anatomy, philosophy, ethics, adjustments and the felt sense of teaching a room. Āsana/OS is where you rehearse the sequencing and cueing homework in between modules so the practical side of the course has somewhere to land.
- What can a trainee actually do with it during a course?
- Build the assessed sequences your trainer sets. Save reusable warm ups and sun salutations. Rehearse cues out loud in Play Mode. Keep a version history of every draft so you can see how your teaching voice changes across the course.
- Is there a student or trainee discount?
- Yes, in the sense that every new account gets a seven day free trial with full access. Most trainees run their first assessed class inside the trial, then continue on a monthly plan while they build a regular teaching schedule.
- Can my lead trainer or mentor review my sequences?
- Yes. Share a private view only link to any class, or publish it to the community so a mentor can save, comment and remix with credit back to you. Nothing is public unless you choose to publish it.
- Can I use it for my final assessment or teach back?
- Yes. Build the class in the app, print or export the outline for your assessor, and teach from the printed sheet or from Play Mode on a phone tucked at the top of your mat.
- Does it cover styles other than Vinyasa?
- Yes. The pose library includes Hatha, Yin, restorative and slow flow shapes as well as Vinyasa transitions. Per pose timing supports both breath counts and longer holds.
